Jay Tieder

Jay has over 30 years experience in the fitness industry. He began in the early 90’s at the legendary Sports Palace in San Francisco where he was introduced to the sport of Weightlifting by US Olympic Team coach Jim Schmitz. Jay has been a Division I strength and conditioning coach for over ten years. He’s worked with over a thousand different athletes competing in fifteen sports at the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, and University of Portland. He is currently a member of the USA Weightlifting Education staff, offering the Level 1 Sports Performance Coaches Course.

A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Jay graduated from Tufts University in 1993 before spending two years (1996-98) as a personal trainer in San Francisco, Calif. Tieder completed the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Med Program at Penn in 2004 and received his Masters of Science (Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics) from the Drexel School of Medicine.

Jay previously taught a course entitled ‘Nutrition, Health, and Disease’ for the Department of Biology at the University of Portland. Furthermore, Jay has ten years experience as a professional chef and the extensive knowledge of food preparation that comes with that background. Bridgetown Crossfit and Barbell Club is uniquely prepared to offer clients guidance in nutritional strategies for body composition change and improved athletic performance.
